East Africa is the place where the term of safari travel was born in the 1850s, and Tanzania is one of the, most leading destinations. Its reserves are well-known for their more than enough wildlife and home to Africa’s “Big 5” (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, and rhino) and to the Great Migration for eight to nine months each year.

BALLOON SAFARIS

Balloon safaris in Tanzania are a romantic and significant way of experiencing the wilderness of East Africa, as you smoothly and quietly fly over the plains growing with herds of wildlife in the early morning.

you are encouraged to pre-book this popular activity for your safari holiday to East Africa due to its limited seating availability. Unfortunately, only children over seven years, old and fit and active adults can be accommodated. Because weight is a crucial safety consideration, passengers weighing over 120 kilos (265 pounds) may need to reserve two places. The balloons are tremendous. Baskets are compartmented for comfort and security, accommodating 16 people for each one-hour voyage.

It is not a cheap trip, but it will make your northern Tanzania vacation one of the most memorable of your whole life. It is possible to charter special private balloon flights in the Grumeti Reserve for honeymoon couples on their romantic trip in the great plains of Africa.

The price reflects the immense cost of the balloons due to a safety replacement every few hundred hours, equivalent to swapping with a high-end automobile. High fees are payable to the national park for tourist permits for every single passenger. A skilled, experienced and licensed pilot and staff of 20 are needed for each trip, including launching and recovery as well as the transport to and from the launch and celebratory champagne breakfast. Each flight is unique, some high enough to view the scenic landscape for miles ahead, others low enough to see individual animals at close quarters.

GREAT MIGRATION SAFARIS

The Serengeti and Masai Mara form the backdrop to one of the most magnificent shows on earth; the Great Migration

Every single year, over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle move continuously across the plains of Tanzania and Kenya in search of fresh grazing, water, and breeding grounds. With numerous predators close at hand, it is this circle of life and death that attracts the safari travelers.

GREAT MIGRATION SAFARIS

The important part of planning a Great Migration safari in East Africa, is to learn the different stages of the migration, at what time of the year is best for seeing these immigrating herds and were within this immense ecosystem you can view the herds. All Tours Tanzania are experts at understanding these movements and have close long-term connections with the surrounding camps and lodges to expedite your ultimate safari.

WALKING SAFARIS

Walking safaris have become a massive hit recently, and this is true because of the opportunity that tourists have to come closer to the wild and interact more with the animals.

A walking safari is normally designed to fit into your safari schedule and can be programmed early in the morning or late afternoon when tropical temperatures are fresh. Until recently walking safaris were offered mainly in the Selous Game Reserve and Wildlife Management Areas and restricted to a few National Parks like Gombe Stream, Mahale Mountains, Rubondo Island, Udzungwa Mountains, Kitulo, Mt Kilimanjaro and Arusha (Mt Meru) which may be extended into trekking. Today visitors can enjoy safaris on foot in Tarangire National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area including Ndutu, and within some selected locations in the Serengeti previously restricted to game drives and balloon safaris only. Further south and west of Tanzania, a dry season walking tours are allowed in remote locations such as Selous, Ruaha, and Katavi.

THE ANNUAL MIGRATION OVERVIEW

The Best Times To Visit The Serengeti Migration
July – October:

This is when the wildebeest are in the northern Serengeti plains, and you have a chance of seeing up to thousands crossing the Mara River. As the sight of the wildebeest crossing the so dramatic, it is considered by many the most desirable time to see the migration.

December – March:

Currently, the wildebeest are in the southern area of the Serengeti, more specifically in Ndutu which is actually in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and it is calving season. Along with the river crossings, this is a real highlight of the wildebeest’s journey and a fabulous time to see the herds gather on the dramatic full plains of the south. February is the only time of year when you are almost guaranteed to see the big herds all together as they always come south for the calving season.

The Rest Of The Year:

In November, April, May, and June the migration are in-between locations and as such these months are slightly transitional times to see the herds. November is the short rains, April and May are the long rains and as such the grass is green in these months across the Serengeti, so the wildebeest are more dispersed than in the prime time of July – October, and December – March. Thus, you don’t get as many of those condensed big herds which people get excited about.
